Turmeric is the most used spice in my kitchen. I always find a way to add it to whatever I am cooking up. If I can lay my hands on whole turmeric at the grocery store, I buy a whole lot to freeze. It is an extremely potent spice and a little goes a long way.
This is my recovery drink that my adrenals thank me for. Sometimes I mix it with Harmless harvest coconut water for getting a magnesium boost. You can also add a pinch of cayenne pepper another potent anti-inflammatory spice.
Turmeric has an important compound curcumin besides other bioactive compounds which has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and potent medicinal properties. Turmeric is also known to stimulate the adrenal glands to increase production of a hormone that reduces inflammation.
What you will need for the drink :
3-4 tablespoons of freshly grated turmeric
2-3 tablespoons of fresh grated ginger
4 cups of filtered water
2 tsp organic cardamom powder + 2 tsp whole black peppercorns
Juice of half a organic lemon
Coconut nectar/ Organic Stevia / Raw organic local honey to sweeten
What next….
Bring the ginger and turmeric to boil in the water
Let is simmer covered for about 30 minutes
Strain the tea, add some cardamom powder and sweeten with coconut nectar/ stevia or honey.
Store in the refrigerator and enjoy it cold on a summer day or warm on a cold fall or winter day.
